In the early 1970s, OMEGA launched the Ploprof 600M and Ploprof 1000M (Plongeur, Professionnel, or "professional diver" in French) to serve technical diving. However, rather than fitting the watches with HEVs to deal with the helium issue, the brand constructed the OMEGA Ploprof in such a way that helium molecules could not penetrate the case. Solely designed and developed for professional use, this diver’s watch was being nicknamed PloProf (Plongeur Professional) by those involved. Earlier this year, I wrote a small review on the current Omega Seamaster PloProf 1200M, a successful re-designed timepiece based on the original PloProf.
