Have any of you not been able to wear Rolex because of nickel allergies? I have had a reaction to my 2 week old BLNR and don’t know if it is an allergy to the nickel or some sort of solution used to clean the steel.
I have a minor nickel allergy, it’s more like sensitivity. It comes and goes. I’m wearing a 904L Rolex now without an issue or discomfort. I find a couple of triggers: 1. When I sweat a lot while wearing the watch (e.g. bike commuting while wearing a watch) 2. When the humidity in the air drops sharply.

Rolex 904L has an even higher nickel content (approx double of 316L), so I won't even attempt it. Put it on a Perlon, MN strap, or NATO. Or find a watch in titanium. I’m looking for advice on a coating or treatment for my Rolex. I’ve got a Datejust, but it seems the nickel in the oystersteel gives me an allergic reaction. Is there any sort of permanent clear coating I can have applied, and if so, recommendations for places that do it?
Rolex stainless steel didn’t change to 904L until around 2005-ish (I think) so if you’re allergic to one, you’re probably fine with the other. There's lots of stainless steel allows, 316L just happens to be the most common one for watches (often called marine grade.) I don’t know if it’s a nickel allergy per se but I am allergic to metals. I get a rash occasionally in the summer or when it’s very humid out; there are some days I can’t wear it at all because of how bad it gets. Surprisingly, it’s only on one side of my wrist - all the other sections are perfectly fine. During the winter or fall, etc.
