I don't know what caused it, but it went through the paint down to the metal. To polish, I first masked off the bezel and then gave the crystal a good wet sanding with 1000 grit sandpaper. This took me about 5-10 minutes. I had to sand pretty vigorously on some of the deeper scratches located at 20 & 50 minutes.
My bezel was out by 0.5-1mm. My seamaster diver 300m was pristine and only a few months old. After a while I decided to ask omega to realign the bezel. I took it to a boutique in London, they were very helpful and took the watch in. Not sure whether it went to Switzerland or a service center in the UK.

However, there is a limit to how much can be polished, and polishing also removes metal by definition and therefore can change the shape / angles / sharpness of a case, which you may or may not want.

Carefully remove a 'knockout' on the side of the panel and add an approved bushing or connector to protect the wires that will pass through it. Install one current sensor over each service entrance line/live wire. Push the release clip in and open the sensor. Carefully place the wire in the top of the sensor.
